Members of the Chairperson's Council of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) conducted a study survey at the Satellite Application Center for Ecology and Environment under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) in Beijing on July 21. 

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, participated in the visit.

The council members toured the center's exhibition hall, unmanned aerial vehicle laboratory, data production facilities and integrated intelligent monitoring terminal for human activities in key ecological areas. Following the visit, they held a discussion with participating CPPCC members, officials from the MEE and the center, and experts. Participants noted that since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has made major advances in ecological progress and environmental protection through theoretical, practical and institutional innovation. A series of new concepts, ideas and strategies, including the "Beautiful China" initiative, have been introduced, leading to historic, transformative and overarching changes in China's ecological progress. 

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets". Participants emphasized the need to remain committed to prioritizing ecological conservation and boosting green development as well as to accelerate modernization featuring harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature.

Efforts are needed to enhance technological support for ecological and environmental protection, particularly through the application of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, to build a Beautiful China through technological innovation, they said.

The CPPCC, as a specialized consultative body, should play an active role in supporting green and low-carbon development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), they noted. Such supportive efforts include conducting in-depth research and offering targeted, actionable policy recommendations, especially focusing on advancing breakthroughs in major green and low-carbon technologies and their applications, they said.

They urged CPPCC members, particularly those from the science and technology as well as the environment and resources participating groups, to leverage their expertise, contribute to innovation, and promote green development, thereby supporting high-quality development through enhanced ecological and environmental protection.

CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons Hu Chunhua, Shen Yueyue, Wang Yong, Bater, Mu Hong, Xian Hui, Wang Dongfeng, Wang Guangqian, Qin Boyong and Zhu Yongxin also joined the study tour.
